💔 Shocking Twist: “Crocodile Hunter”’s Family Got Far Less Inheritance Than Anyone Imagined After His 2006 Death

When Steve Irwin died suddenly in 2006 from a stingray accident, he left behind an impressive estate worth millions. However, the much smaller inheritance his family actually received has surprised many people.

According to the New York Post, Steve Irwin was worth an estimated $15 million at the time of his death, but his wife Terri and their two children, Bindi and Robert, were left with only around $200,000. This equals a little over $130,000 in US Dollars.

So why did the family of the “Crocodile Hunter” receive such a small amount compared to his actual wealth?

The money they got came only from his insurance policy, according to RealEstate.com.au.

The rest of Steve’s fortune was left to the Australian Zoo, where he dedicated most of his time, along with other wildlife projects.

“Everything was reinvested into conservation work,” Terri had shared to the Australian Financial Review in 2024. “I was in debt … and Steve’s life insurance, I think, was the sum total of $200,000, which didn’t even cover half of one week’s payroll.”

Terri was able to continue her husband’s hard work to keep the Australian Zoo running after inheriting it, thanks to a solid business plan Steve had set up.

As many know, the Irwin family has steadily rebuilt their wealth through different projects over the years. They’ve consistently contributed to conservation efforts and have even taken on other side quests.

For example, Bindi competed on Dancing with the Stars during Season 21. She went on to win the competition and took home the Mirror Ball trophy.

Earlier this year, it was announced that her brother Robert would follow in her footsteps by competing on the show’s Season 34 this fall.

He has also taken part in other entertainment ventures, like making his runway debut and hosting a television show.
